I always have a great time on-air when sipping in the studio with Stephanie Webb at WZZM's Take Five & Co. Click HERE to view an episode on Wine & Music pairing. I picked some of my favorite records at home and matched them up with wines that shared styles.

Cheers,
Allie

Click HERE to tune in & tip up with Allie Merrick, co-host of My Wine Words,
as she reports on the wine she sips from her sleeper car
while traveling by train from Chicago to Seattle and back again.

Prepare to be showered w/red plum, jasmine & raspberry cloves
and drenched w/cranberry concentrate.
This is a sexy and sassy wine from Cleo's Hill,
pairing well with the red dress that Jessica Rabbit wore
in that movie 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'.
(You know the dress. It's THIS one.)

Yes, I understand this shot is entirely cheeky, but I simply had to take it.
I love this hat and found that it paired perfectly with the Cloudlift Cellars 2009 Ascent.

A blend of Cabernet Franc (72%), Merlot (23%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%),
this wine, like my hat, was shaped with red cherry structure veiled by black accents of licorice.
In addition, this red blend showed young blueberry character contrasted by aged black raspberry.

Cheers,
Allie

"A bottle of wine is at its best when shared amongst friends."
That said, that's what we did.
In fact, we opened FOUR bottles of wine with FOUR of our friends.
Together, we had a look at the PURPLE HANDS 2011 Vintage.

PURPLE HANDS 2011 HOLSTEIN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR

Here's what we collectively smelled & tasted in series of six words:
MEADOW, COTTON CANDY, SUMMER, HONEY SUCKLE, VERSATILE & RASPBERRY-APPLE

PURPLE HANDS 2011 OREGON RED BLEND

Six expressions in words of our own for a lovely red blend:
JOY, FIESTA, HOUSE PARTY, DREAMY, RAZZLEBERRY MOSS & BURGUNDY BROWN SUGAR

PURPLE HANDS 2011 STOLLER VINEYARD PINOT NOIR

In five words, these words define what we found in this wine:
FAYGO 'ROCK N RYE', BIG DARK BEATS, CHERRY FIG NEWTON, STARBURST & GUMMY BEAR

PURPLE HANDS 2011 WILLAMETTE VALLEY PINOT NOIR

This was our FAVORITE wine of the night defined in six terms:
ROSE INK, WEST COAST, BLACK CHERRY COLA, FRUIT ROLL UP, NUEVO & LUDENS

PENNER-ASH
2011 VIOGNIER

While attending the Willamatte Valley Wineries Association's 'PINOT IN THE CITY' event in Chicago, I had the great pleasure of sipping the Penner-Ash 2011 Viogner. While this winery, like most others in Oregon is known for their Pinot Noir, this bottle of Viognier made quite an impression on my palate. If I were to select just two words to define this wine, I'd choose "so pretty". It was absolutely lovely with jasmine and honey notes accompanied by peach accents. Cheers to a vibrant Viognier that is oh so pretty!

"While we have different ways of describing wine, our love for wine (and each other) is the same.
If you've ever doubted that opposites attract, with Peter and I, all doubt is removed."
- Allie Merrick

As the Humane Society of West Michigan prepares for their March fundraising event - Paws, Claws & Corks, I was asked to do a wine pairing featuring an assortment of wines & adoptable dogs. I stepped on the set of Take Five & Company & paired them up.

Cheers,
Allie

SANDI

With Sandi's cuddly nature
and the Sequoia Grove's soft tannins,
you can nuzzle up to both.

JERICHO
+ JORGE ORDONEZ SPECIAL SELECTION
This 4 year old Pit Bull Terrier Mix
and this bottle of dessert wine are lovely & sweet.
You can't help but have huge affection for both.

JIM JIM
+ FRISK PRICKLY RIESLING

Here is a pup & a wine that do very well
in social settings. With a playful disposition,
both the dog & the wine are nothing but pleasant.

Yes, I 'nuzzled' a bottle of wine while I was on TV this morning. In context, it was totally appropriate.
